"Restorative Yoga is the use of props to support the body into positions of comfort and ease, to facilitate health and relaxation." Judith Hanson Lasater, Author of Relax and Renew Restorative Yoga practice uses props such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks to support the body in postures to promote relaxation. ⠀
Restorative Yoga has many benefits such as: ⠀ • Improves digestion⠀ • Decreases stress & anxiety⠀ • Increases respiratory capacity⠀ • Promotes pain relief ⠀ • Assists in physical & emotional healing⠀
In Restorative Yoga Teacher Training, trainees will learn the science of relaxation from both the anatomical and energetic perspectives. The first task is to assist all students in being propped so that every joint is nicely nuzzled by a blanket, bolster, or block. The second job is to create an atmosphere of allowing the nervous system to down-regulate to its parasympathetic state, or the “Rest and Digest” mode.
Learning the subtleties of teaching Restorative Yoga provides teachers with an important tool, learning to practice Restorative Yoga. This training is generous in practice.
Areas of Focus to include: Understanding the sympathetic & parasympathetic aspects of the autonomic nervous system Looking for “the drop” of the nervous system in our restorative practice Understanding busy brains & speaking the language of release Learning the body systems most affected by a restorative practice Observing the subtle flow of a body at rest & propping accordingly Building a sequence Assessing your sleep patterns & understanding the power of sleep Assessing your self-care and committing to your own wellbeing
As part of this training, teachers will instruct a restorative class between sessions and photograph their students in poses. They then submit the photographs for review and instruction.
